This Asthma Awareness Month, Parents and Students Across the Country Urge Congress to Protect Clean School Bus Funds

Organizations Across 17 States Delivering 3,000+ Postcards from Constituents

NATIONWIDE — Starting today, World Asthma Day, over 3,000 postcards from constituents will be delivered to 31 Congressional offices as part of a national day of action for electric school buses.

Across 17 states, parents, students and voters are delivering more than 1,100 postcards with handwritten notes and 2,000 digital postcards with a clear message: Congress must protect clean school bus funding. A handful of deliveries are taking place in the next two weeks, throughout Asthma Awareness Month.

As part of the budget reconciliation package, Congress could cut at least $2.2 billion in funding as well as tax credits for clean school buses and their charging stations. Through the Clean School Bus Program and the Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles Program, EPA has awarded $3.2 billion to date for over 10,000 clean school buses at more than 1,200 school districts in every U.S. state and most territories.

Cutting these programs would mean millions of U.S. children riding dirtier, old diesel buses to school, increasing their likelihood of developing asthma and other heart and lung illnesses. As asthma rates climb, it’s more important than ever to clean up the air children breathe by reducing their exposure to diesel pollution at key developmental ages.

Participating organizations and their Congressional targets include:
