Federal Advocacy

We call for federal funding for electric school buses to prioritize the communities most harmed by air pollution, which, as data shows, are disproportionately low-income communities and communities of color, and to ensure career opportunities for student transportation workers.

Our coalition continues to advocate for federal funding and support for the electrification of the nation’s school bus fleet. While some of our members lobby White House and Congressional offices, others provide research and technical assistance for legislation and help facilitate relationships between national and local leaders and communities throughout the country. We call for federal funding for electric school buses to prioritize the communities most harmed by air pollution, which, as data shows, are disproportionately low-income communities and communities of color, and to ensure career opportunities for student transportation workers. Through our advocacy efforts and in partnership with other groups, we succeeded in passing up to $5 billion in funding for electric school buses through the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021, and are now working with the EPA to ensure an accessible, equitable rollout and administration of the newly funded Clean School Bus Program.
